THE family of former Town manager Ian Greaves will be at Field Mill on Saturday when Mansfield Town rename a stand in his honour.

Stars from the football world attended the funeral after the last man to lead Town into the top flight, back in 1970, died aged 76 in January last year.

Now Mansfield, the last of the five clubs he managed, are to provide a lasting memorial to the ex-Manchester United player who took them to promotion from Division IV (now League II) in 1986 and the Freight Rover (now Johnstone’s Paint) Trophy final at Wembley the following season.

The Ian Greaves (formerly West) Stand will be officially renamed before the Blue Square Premier clash with Tamworth.

“It’s lovely that they are honouring my dad in this way,” said Christine Quinn, the Huddersfield-based daughter of Greaves, who also led Bolton into the top flight as well as bossing Oxford and Wolves.

“He had six happy years there before retiring, and it will be nice to go back and feel proud about what he achieved.”
