A poor match at the Racecourse Ground saw few chances in the first half for the Terriers.

Leon Knight, targetted for special attention by combative Dragons midfielder Darren Ferguson and booed by the home crowd every time he went down under challenges, struck a sweet curler onto the crossbar after 21 minutes.

That was Town's best chance of the half despite Delroy Facey and Danny Schofield each going clear - they could only drag their efforts wide of the mark.

The busier of the 'keepers was Martyn Margetson as he faced his countrymen, desperate for points in their struggle to avoid relegation.

Margetson make an acrobatic left-handed save from Lee Trundle after the Dragons had intercepted a Town pass.

The Welshman was there at the end of the first period to tip the ball away from Shaun Holmes after good work from Craig Faulconbridge.

Margetson had to make another super save less than a minute after the re-start - palming Wayne Phillips' diving header away after Faulconbridge and Holmes had caused mayhem in the area.

The Terriers needed to step up their game after an insipid opening period and a shock start to the second half and they responded well with a goal after just over 5 minutes after the re-start.

Irons and Schofield combined to find Leon Knight with a searching cross.

The little striker knocked the ball down across the face of goal and Delroy Facey pounced with a stooping header from 2 yards out to open the scoring.

The Town youth product was so happy he leapt to his feet and jumped in the air to celebrate his first goal of the season.

There was little time to rejoice, however, as Lee Trundle got the better of Jenkins for a range finder before Craig Faulconbridge stole in unmarked at a corner to equalise just a couple of minutes later.

The Terriers had gone to sleep again and Wrexham were roused by the comeback and spent the rest of the game closing down an distinctly off-colour Town side in search of a vital winner.

Town just couldn't get going despite the debuts of Damien Delaney and Jerel Ifil and, with Steve Jenkins looking uncomfortable playing out of position at left back, looked more likely to concede than score.

The game was heading for stalemate but there was still time for Margetson to produce a further pair of top saves in injury time as Craig Faulconbridge and his Wrexham team-mates resorted to a very direct style of play.

By the time the final whistle had gone, Town fans were relieved that they had take a point away when they might easily have left with none.
