Martin Paterson will be out to shine as Huddersfield Town go public in pre-season on Saturday.

The 27-year-old striker, signed from Burnley on a two-year deal 12 months ago, looked to be on his way out of the John Smith’s Stadium last season.

He ended the campaign on loan at League I Bristol City, admitting his Town future was “uncertain”.

But Paterson pulled out of Northern Ireland’s post-season South American tour to ensure he returned to Town in the best possible condition.

And having scored from the spot in last Saturday’s 3-1 behind-closed-doors win over Cypriot side Limassol, he headed out to Portugal with the rest of Mark Robins’ squad the day after.

Paterson, who scored six times in 26 games for Town last time around, featured in Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Doncaster in Vilamoura, when fellow frontman James Vaughan claimed a hat trick.

And he’s in contention to take on SC Portimonense in Albufeira, where kick-off is 6.00 and admission is free.

Boss Robins says the clash with the Portuguese second division side is another important step forwards.

“It’s been a great week so far and the players have been working hard,” he said.

“The Doncaster game was an excellent work-out, and we’re looking forward to facing Portimonense.

“The opposition will be different for us, but the aim is still the same.

“It’s about getting players minutes on the pitch and working on a few things tactically.”
