Nahki Wells won the praise of David Wagner after clinching Huddersfield Town’s first win under their head coach at the third attempt.

The club’s top scorer notched his fifth of the season in the 80th minute to seal the 2-0 victory at Birmingham City which lifted Wagner’s men out of the Championship relegation zone.

Joe Lolley had set Town on their way to a first win in seven by netting after just 32 seconds.

Wells’ dummy teed up ex-Birmingham junior player Lolley to claim his first of the campaign.

And Wagner, delighted with the clean sheet as well as the three points, said: “Nahki works unbelievably hard for the team.

“As well as being a very good striker, he is also our first defender.

“It is unusual for a striker to be so open-minded for defensive work.

“But in our system, strikers must defend and defenders also have to work hard on attacking.”
