MELTHAM ATHLETIC caused a big cup upset with a 3-1 victory over West Riding County Amateur League leaders Storthes Hall.

Hall, back-to-back winners of the Huddersfield District FA Cup in 2002 and 2003, came a cropper against Meltham, 16 places below them in third position in Division I.

Goals by Dean Walker, Sam Wardle and George Dawson gave the Broadlands Recreation-based side a cup scalp and their reward is a third round home tie against Cumberworth, of District League Division III.

Meanwhile cup-holders Golcar United eased past Aimbry, who are fifth in the District League Division I, with Leigh Holmes and Andrew Allison on target in the 2-0 victory.

And 2001 cup winners Bay Athletic beat District League Division II high-fliers Moldgreen with a comfortable 2-0 win and only bad finishing kept the score down when it could have been eight or nine.

Bay, third in the West Riding CAL Premier Division, dominated the first half and had a goal disallowed when Paul Pyke rounded the keeper and, instead of scoring let the ball run out of play, before passing to Adam McLachlan to side-foot in.

Kitson Gayle scuffed an easy chance on 30 minutes and McLachlan squandered another soon after as crosses were being under and over hit.

Martin Johnson got his first goal for Bay on 65 minutes when, after a good turn in a crowded box, he fired a low drive through the keeper's legs to take some pressure off.

On 74 minutes Gayle made it 2-0 with a low 18-yard drive which was palmed by the keeper but it still went in.

Bay had more chances but failed to capitalise, while Moldgreen could only muster one good chance in the second half.

Bay now face Lindley Lib, of District Division II, in the next round and will be out for revenge after Lindley knocked them out of last season's competition.
