JUNIOR MENDES did his first-team chances no harm whatsoever with a deserved late winner for dominant Town.

Only nine minutes remained when the Montserrat international - out of the senior squad for three straight games - cut in from the right and scored with a low left-foot drive.

It rewarded almost continual second-half pressure from John Dungworth's side and extended their winning League run to four successive matches in front of an appreciative Galpharm crowd of 158.

Town had been forced to fight back from behind, however, after Boston held the half-time advantage thanks to an excellent 25th-minute free-kick from David Staff, who curled the ball into Phil Senior's top right-hand corner following a foul by Tom Clarke on Daryl Clare.

John McAliskey put Town level when celebrating his call-up to the Republic of Ireland Under 21 squad with a quality finish in the 51st minute, flicking the ball home after an Anthony Lloyd curler had bounced back off a post.

Town, in fact, hit the woodwork twice more through McAliskey and Danny Schofield as Boston - coached by ex-Leeds Road striker Paul Raynor - were put under the cosh.

Excellent for Town was Michael Collins in midfield, who impressed watching manager Peter Jackson with his simple passing, creative link-up play and capacity for involvement in just about every decent attack.

No wonder he's now captain of the Eire Under 19 side and into the senor squad for Saturday's trip to Walsall.

Adnan Ahmed also caught the eye with some splendid shots and passes, and there was a lot of hard graft up front from Akpo Sodje, who was close to scoring on a couple of occasions and did well in the air.

John McCombe was typically solid on his return from injury alongside Clarke, while Aaron Hardy deputised well for illness victim David Mirfin.

Town: Senior, Hardy, Lloyd, Ahmed, McCombe, Clarke (T), Mendes, Collins, McAliskey, Sodje, Schofield. Subs not used: Walls, Giles, Caulfield, Evans, Hand.
