MICHAEL COLLINS is in line to make a Town return at Brighton tonight (7.45).

But Dean Heffernan is touch and go for the big clash at Withdean, where victory will put Lee Clark’s side back into the League I play-off zone.

That would be a major tonic for seventh-placed Town as they begin a testing run of two fixtures a week through to March.

Midfielder Collins is fit again after an ankle injury and seeking a first start in five as Town aim to inflict a 10th home league defeat of the season on Brighton.

Australian left-back Heffernan has made the trip to the South coast, but will be assessed in training today after a groin niggle forced him off during Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Carlisle United.

“We’ll give Dean the maximum time possible, but we won’t take any risks with him,” said Clark, who brought on Robbie Williams in his place on Saturday.

“I’m pleased that Michael Collins is available again, because he offers us an attacking option that perhaps others don’t.”

Poyet, who is again set to leave out 15-goal top scorer Nicky Forster after a bust-up, has promised changes in terms of both tactics and personnel as Brighton battle to escape the relegation zone.

The Uruguayan is still seeking his first home league win.

Town beat Brighton 7-1 at the Galpharm back in August, but Clark says that bears no relevance tonight.

“It seems a long time ago now, and we certainly won’t be taking things lightly,” he said.

“Gus was a very good player, and after several battles on the pitch, I’m looking forward to pitting my wits against him now we are managers.

“He’s got a lot of experience from his spells as assistant manager at Swindon, Leeds and Spurs, and his side caught the eye at Aston Villa in the FA Cup.”
