Mustapha Carayol set his sights on a first home start for Huddersfield Town against Bolton Wanderers and told boss Chris Powell: “I’m ready if needed.”

The on-loan Middlesbrough winger played the first 78 minutes of Tuesday’s 2-1 Championship win at Charlton Athletic after two appearances from the bench.

It was a first victory of the season for Powell’s 20th-placed team, and the Gambian international was delighted to play his part.

“I’ve settled well and I’m really enjoying myself,” said the 27-year-old former MK Dons, Torquay United, Lincoln City and Bristol Rovers player.

“Things had gone stale for me at Middlesbrough, I needed a change, and Huddersfield have given me that.

“I’m happy and I’m focused on a new challenge and I want to repay the faith the club and manager have shown in me.”

Carayol played a touchline-hugging role at Charlton but says he can adapt to any request from Powell.

“On Tuesday, it was all about giving us width and getting in crosses,” he explained.

“But I love to get involved and I’m working on a partnership with (left-back) Jason Davidson.

“I’ll do whatever the manager asks of me and I’d love a chance to show our fans what I’m about.

“I know I can play at this level and there’s a lot more to come from me and the team.

“There’s a lot of talent here, and while we have sometimes been on different wavelengths as we get used to playing with each other, we are progressing.

“Getting that first win was huge and we want to kick on.”
