Adam Clayton trained with Huddersfield Town today, with his move to Middlesbrough having been put on hold.

It’s been reported that the midfielder has finalised personal terms while the clubs have agreed in principle a £1.5m deal which could rise to £2m with add-ons.

But the transfer has still to be rubber-stamped, and a saga which began when Brighton were strongly linked with the 25-year-old last weekend looks set to continue.

Understandably, Boro are said to be keen to complete the transfer in time for Clayton to come into consideration for Saturday’s home opener against Birmingham.

Town, who yesterday signed Liverpool midfielder Conor Coady for £375,000, have been linked with Middlesbrough’s Jacob Butterfield.

Any move for the former Barnsley and Norwich man would be separate from the Clayton deal.

Coady, 21, trained with Town today in readiness for Saturday’s John Smith’s Stadium clash with Bournemouth.
