HUDDERSFIELD, beaten by Leeds in last season’s West Riding County FA Minor Cup final, take on the same team in the opening round this time.

In May’s final at county headquarters, Woodlesford, Huddersfield battled manfully to take Leeds all the way before losing 3-2.

And on Sunday at Whitkirk’s ground (2.00) they will bid to avenge that defeat as they aim for their 12th victory in the competition and their first since 1994.

Huddersfield are in Group II and along with Leeds will meet Barkston Ash, Harrogate and Bradford in the coming months.

Manager Barry Fella and his assistants, Chris Haigh and Patrick Derrick, have chosen a squad of 15 for Sunday’s game (meet Leeds Road Playing Fields, noon).

Fella said: “We were brilliant in just losing to them in last season’s final and if this squad can gel and have the same attitude and commitment then we have a good chance of taking revenge on an FA side that were winning the title for the 21st time only four months ago.”

Squad: Wilkinson, Thomas, Wharam, Rogers, Greenhalgh (Netherton), John, Nixon, Taylor, Burnett, Webb, Green, Tattersall, Pearson (YMCA), Green (Moldgreen), Whiteley (Meltham), Riley (Kirkheaton).
