BRADFORD City boss Stuart McCall has resigned.

McCall met with joint-chairman Julian Rhodes on Monday to discuss his future after Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Bury left them 16th in the table. "It's coming to a stage now where it is time for somebody new to come in. It's just not meant to be," McCall told BBC Radio Leeds after the Shakers defeat.

Assistant Wayne Jacobs is to take temporary charge of the club.

The 45-year-old took over at Valley Parade in May 2007 and threatened to leave at the end of last season after Bradford failed to make the play-offs.

Saturday's defeat by Bury was their sixth at home this season and left the Bantams 12 points outside the play-off places. And McCall believes the signs were there that it is time for him to walk away.

"I just think it's time now to get a lucky manager in. He might not be the best manager but if he can be lucky that would be good for the club," he said.

Former Huddersfield Town stopper Matt Glennon joined the club in the January transfer window. They also have former HTFC midfielder Michael Flynn on their books.

Former Terriers boss Peter Jackson, who was at Saturday's match when Town drew with Carlisle, is one of the names already being linked with the vacant post.
