DANNY CADAMARTERI has been one of Town’s most consistent performers in their three competitive games so far this season.

But manager Stan Ternent believes there is more to come yet from the frontman who is still seeking his first goal of the campaign.

“Danny is getting there,” said Ternent of the 28-year-old who has recovered from the knee injury which blighted his 2007-08 campaign.

“He just needs a bit more quality in his end product, but to be fair, you could say that of a number of the players.”

Cadamarteri and Co made it three games unbeaten by drawing 0-0 in the first competitive match at Colchester United’s new Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Town would have been celebrating a first three-point haul in League I had Andy Booth, scorer of their goal in the 1-1 opening-day home draw with Stockport County, been able to finish a golden opportunity in the 89th minute.

“Andy couldn’t get his shot away,” said Ternent. “He was falling back and he couldn’t make a firm enough contact.

“If he had managed to from that range, it would have gone in.”

The boss added: “We would like to have won both our league games so far, because that would have been six rather than two points. But we’re unbeaten and we will get better.

“I thought the players worked extremely hard against Colchester and kept a decent shape and balance.”

l Town’s Carling Cup second-round tie against Sheffield United at the Galpharm will take place on Wednesday week, August 27 (7.45).

Town have moved from their usual Tuesday evening slot because of existing police commitments.
