Nahki Wells says he is fully focused on helping Huddersfield Town maintain their flying start to the Championship campaign.

With transfer deadline day (August 31) edging ever closer, the club’s star striker continues to be linked with a move away.

Aston Villa are the latest reported to fancy the Bermudian frontman, with Norwich City still said to have a serious interest.

But Wells, who helped Town make it 10 points from a possible 12 with a 2-1 home win over Barnsley, said: “I am happy here.

“It’s just typical speculation. Clubs are always looking at the players they think have done well, but I am focused on Huddersfield.

“I am focused on playing my part and trying to score goals and I won’t let any talk outside the club bother me.”

Chris Lowe celebrates with Nahki Wells after opening the scoring for Town. But what marks did they get from Doug Thomson?

The 26-year-old, signed for a then-Town record £1.3m from Bradford City in January 2014, made his third appearance of the term against Barnsley.

“He has returned after picking up a knee injury during pre-season and added: “I still feel like I lack some fitness in comparison to others.

“But I’m happy to be back and playing, and the more I play the fitter I will become. I feel comfortable and I was happy with how I played against Barnsley.”

The scorer of one goal this time around and 40 for Town in total, Wells continued: “My target is 20 for the season as usual.

“But the team is the important thing and we want at least a top-half finish and maybe a tilt at promotion.

“It is great to think we have got 10 points out of a possible 12 and not many would have predicted it, but we deserve to be where we are.

“We don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves, though. We will just keep working hard and prepare to face Wolves (at home on Saturday).”
