TOWN manager Lee Clark will not rush injured Nathan Clarke back into action.
The 25-year-old central defender missed Tuesday night’s 2-2 home draw with Colchester United after reacting to a knock sustained at Stockport County.
Clark suggested that his centre back could be back to fitness in time to face Millwall at the Galpharm Stadium on Saturday, but was not about to force the issue.
“Hopefully we should have Nathan back pretty soon,” said Clark.
“It’s not a serious injury, but he had a fitness test prior to the Colchester game and we quickly realised that he wasn’t right.
“There is no way when it comes to injuries that I am going to force players on to the pitch.
“If players try and play for the sake of one game then you run the risk of what is just a bit of a problem becoming an injury that keeps the player out for four or more weeks.”
Club captain Chris Lucketti filled the breach against Colchester and Clark was more than happy with the 37-year-old’s performance.
Clark said: “I thought Chris was outstanding.
“He coped very well with the threat of Clive Platt, he won all of his aerial duels, and used his experience to good effect and I was pleased with how he performed.
“Hopefully Nathan will be right for Saturday, but if he isn’t then we will look to the game against MK Dons.”
