IT has to be one of the closest of derby games.

Westend B hosted Junior Collegians in the RCD Junior League Under 12 Cup - with the Collegians pitch literally yards from that of their opponents.

The Westend club play at Huddersfield New College, the Collegians at Salendine Nook High School but the playing fields are shared.

And it made for an interesting encounter as many of the players from both sides are friends.

The game ended in a thumping 12-0 win for Junior Collegians, a not unexpected result as they are seventh in Division I and Westend B are next to bottom in Division 4A.

Manager Rob Wilczinski was delighted with the performance of both his teams and the general success of a club that is still in its relative infancy.

"The club is doing very well. We have been going only six years but we have grown and grown.

"It can be difficult as there are now three big clubs in a relatively small area, with ourselves, YMCA and Westend all within a half-mile radius.

"It means we are often chasing the same players and it has left us a bit short this season in the Under 8 and Under 9 sections.

"But generally we are progressing very well on and off the field.

"We went through one season unbeaten, we won the Westend tournament in the summer and we have just enjoyed a successful tournament in Belgium".

It was also part of a wonderful Cup weekend for the Collegians club.

All six of their teams were in first-round action and all but one moved through to the next round of their respective competitions.

The Under 12A team hit the goal trail beating Moorlands 9-0, while the Under 11s were given a harder task but eventually won 2-1 at Shelf.

There was also an excellent win for the Under 13 side, also against Westend B.

The only shock of the day was in the Under 14s, where Collegians crashed out against Horton Park after penalties.
