HUDDERSFIELD Town manager Lee Clark has strongly hinted any signings in the January transfer window could centre on the defence.
Clark has Antony Kay and Tom Clarke vying to replace suspended skipper Peter Clarke against Chesterfield at the Galpharm on Boxing Day.
Jamie McCombe has today been recalled from Preston North End loan.
Clark, who will have his squad in for training on Christmas Day, when his family will be visiting West Yorkshire from the North East, is keen to pile up some points against Chesterfield and Carlisle before thinking about the transfer market.
“We will see what comes up, because it’s important we make sure they are the right players,” said Clark, who knows he will get the backing of chairman Dean Hoyle for the right imports.
“All I can say on it is that we’ve just been to a top team in Sheffield Wednesday and scored four goals but we’ve come away with only a point.
“That was the only disappointment about the match and we have talked about it.
“The first two we conceded we had terrific chances to clear and got caught, for the third we were a little bit meek in the challenge and then didn’t press the ball and, for the fourth, it was a set play.
“So this is all basic stuff, it’s not complicated, and we will sort it out quickly and move forward.”
Clark is without only Alex Smithies (knee) and midfielder Damien Johnson (hamstring) for the holiday games.
He confirmed talks are under way with Liam Ridehalgh and his agent about the possibility of extending his loan to League II Swindon, but no decisions have been made on him or any of the other players who are out on loan.
