THERE'S a new Robinson on the block at Brighton - and he's aiming to down Town.

Michael Robinson was once the golden boy of the Goldstone Ground, scoring the goal which took the Seagulls to an FA Cup final appearance against Manchester United in 1983.

These days, top-flight football and major finals are a distant memory to fans who saw their club relegated from the Championship last season.

But in the last couple of games, Jake Robinson has given them something to cheer, scoring in the last two games, a 2-0 Johnstone's Paint Trophy win over Boston and 1-1 League I draw with Northampton.

That made it four for the season for the frontman who was 20 on Monday.

And he'll be confident of collecting a fifth tomorrow, even if boss Dean Wilkins recently warned the former club trainee to keep his feet on the ground.

"Jake's been at the club quite a long time now, and he's possibly not really fulfilled his potential," said Wilkins.

"But if he works hard in training, listens and is willing to learn, we will get him to the level where he should be."

Wilkins himself is very much on a learning curve when it comes to management.

The brother of former Chelsea, Manchester United and England star Ray was youth-team coach last season.

He became assistant to then-boss Mark McGhee in the summer, and stepped up after the Scot parted company with the club in September.

Having chalked up two wins and a draw in his first three matches, Wilkins then saw his charges suffer five defeats on the bounce in all competitions.

They have now gone three without defeat, and in their last away game, had an impressive 2-1 win at Scunthorpe.

Wilkins hasn't been helped by a string of injury problems.

But there was some bright news this week with the return to training of two key men, Alex Revell and Gary Hart.

Revell, a 23-year-old former league player with Cambridge who was signed in the summer after firing 36 goals for Braintree last season, is likely to come in for Joe Gatting to play alongside Robinson.

While Revell missed out against Northampton because of a back problem, Hart, a versatile 30-year-old who scored the winner when Brighton triumphed 2-1 on their last visit to Huddersfield, in October 2001, damaged his groin during the warm-up for the JPT clash with Boston.

He looks set to take the place of Dean Hammond on the right side of midfield, with Dean Cox on the left and Tommy Fraser and Adam El-Abd in the centre of the engine room.

On-loan Coventry right-back Adam Whing should recover from an eye injury to continue in defence.

Kerry Mayo will play left-back with former Portsmouth man Guy Butters and Paul Hinshelwood, 19, taking the central slots in front of keeper Wayne Henderson.

With experienced Dutch deputy stopper Michel Kuipers struggling with a calf injury, teenager John Sullivan is on standby to be on the bench.

Frenchman Georges Santos, once of Tranmere, starts a three-match ban but his compatriot and fellow midfielder Alex Frutos returns from the same suspension.
