LUKE BECKETT spoke of his delight at staying with Town today - just as another frontline striker was added to the injury list!

While loan favourite Beckett has signed for another month from Sheffield United, Junior Mendes has pulled a groin muscle and seems certain to miss Saturday's vital home clash with Blackpool.

With Andy Booth still under treatment and facing a scan on his groin injury, Republic of Ireland Under 21 cap John McAliskey will not now be risked in tomorrow's Reserve trip to Darlington (2.00).

If Booth misses out this weekend, McAliskey could well step up in the absence of suspended Pawel Abbott as manager Peter Jackson looks for only a second win in 10 matches.

Beckett - who will train at Bramall Lane each Tuesday and is subject to a 24-hour recall - is looking forward to the challenge after five goals in five matches.

"It's great to be here for another month and, hopefully, I can get some more goals and help us climb the table," said Beckett.

"I spoke with Neil Warnock, who realises it's better for me to be playing matches and keeping match fit, and as long as I train with United one day a week he's happy.

"It means I can be involved in all the preparations here, and that suits everyone fine.

"My loan has gone really well and I couldn't have asked for anything better - apart from some better results than we've had.

"Hopefully those will come in this second month and I can't wait for the Blackpool match, which is a big one for us."

Blackpool, who have ex-Town man Simon Baldry on trial, are trying to sign a striker themselves and are in the hunt for Plymouth's Marino Keith and Bristol City's Paul Heffernan

Akpo Sodje and Abbott will lead the Reserves' attack tomorrow while Efe Sodje returns from his ban alongside Steve Yates at the back.

Town: Senior, Brown, E Sodje, Yates, Lloyd, Hardy, Collins, Fowler, Young, A Sodje, Abbott. Subs: From the Academy.
