TOWN have ended their interest in Watford full-back Mat Sadler.

But Lee Clark could give a run-out to another trialist in tonight’s reserve clash with Hartlepool United at the Galpharm (7.00).

The boss is remaining tight-lipped on the identity of the player, with the paperwork for a League Central Division appearance yet to be completed.

Clark, who last week announced he wouldn’t be pursuing another trialist, former Derry City and Northern Ireland Under 21 centre-back Mark McChrystal, explained: “We’re always thinking about potential signings, and in some cases, you can’t afford not to take a close look with your own eyes.

“Mark and Mat both spent time with us, and while we won’t be taking things any further, they go with our best wishes.”

While the window for permanent signings doesn’t reopen until January, Clark could still snap up free agents or fix loan deals.

Town will field a strong side for tonight’s second-team contest as Clark looks towards Saturday’s home League I clash with Leyton Orient.

Matt Glennon, Andy Butler, James Berrett, Jim Goodwin, Danny Drinkwater, Lionel Ainsworth and Theo Robinson, who made up the bench at Charlton Athletic last Saturday, will all feature.

So too will left-back Joe Skarz, who spent time on loan at Hartlepool last season.

Cleveland referee Peter Quinn will be in the middle against Orient.
