PETER JACKSON today backed his Town players to deliver a revival and promised no knee-jerk reaction to dropping into the bottom half of the League I table.

Despite a clamour among some fans for new signings and possible changes to personnel and formation in the wake of Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Wrexham, Jackson will wisely use a blank week to take stock.

Uppermost in his mind before Town next play at Swindon on December 8 are injuries to striker Andy Booth (ankle) and defender Steve Yates (thigh) suffered in a fourth home defeat of the topsy-turvy campaign.

Booth's possible ligament problem has settled a little while Yates faces a scan to determine the extent of his second-half setback.

"I've got complete faith in the players and, while some people might be on their backs and on mine, I will never doubt the lads because I know we are a good side," said Jackson today.

"I will look at every aspect of the display and I will leave no stone unturned, but we will use the next 10 days to re-group for what is an important period and we will come through by sticking together as a squad.

"The quality was missing on Saturday, we all know that, and we have to pick up our home performances if we are going to be among the strong challengers this time.

"Boothy's injury so early in the game was a massive blow to us and our passing let us down throughout, but we will bounce back."

Town are now 14th overall but 16th in the form table and 18th on home form.

"It's disappointing but we will turn it around and push back up there by New Year," added Jackson.

LEEDS UNITED are keeping a close watch on Town's young talent.

Assistant manager Sam Ellis watched Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Wrexham - following up on regular visits by Kevin Blackwell's scout, the former Town ace Ronnie Jepson.

Possible targets are wing-back Andy Holdsworth, centre-back Nathan Clarke - who has just signed a new Town contract - and 13-goal striker Pawel Abbott.
