Huddersfield Town supporters group North Stand Loyal have praised owner and chairman Dean Hoyle for the club's decision to open the South Stand to home fans for the Yorkshire derby against Barnsley on Saturday.

The club will make part of the Chadwick Lawrence Stand available to home season card holders, as they did for the opening-day visit of Brentford when the gate was 18,479.

Town, in partnership with Hirsche Automotive, have also made 1,000 £5 tickets available in the the Fantastic Media (North) Stand lower tier in an attempt to draw over 20,000 spectators to the John Smith's Stadium.

Who will win: Huddersfield Town or Barnsley?

A spokesman for North Stand Loyal said: "We'd like to thank the club and in particular Dean Hoyle, for giving us the opportunity to have home fans in the South Stand against Barnsley.

"The decision will clearly have a direct impact on ticket revenue generated by the away fans, and we know of the the importance of that money to the club.

"It's a clear sign that the club recognise our efforts in helping to provide the noise, colour and atmosphere that we witnessed most recently against Brentford."

The club are likely to lose money with this initiative through away ticket sales as Barnsley would probably have been able to sell more than their current allocation of 1,753 tickets, but the move will guarantee a strong Town-supporting atmosphere at the match.

The weekend will see Barnsley's first visit to the John Smith's Stadium since March 2014 when Town won the Championship clash 5-0 in front of 14,236.

North Stand Loyal urged fans to make the most of this opportunity funded by the club.

"It's now down to the fans to come along and join us in the South Stand, again Season Card holders can utilise their SC's at the South Stand turnstile on a first come-first served basis, there are no prior ticket swaps needed to gain access," a spokesman said.

"Come along, and help fill the stand and provide the vocal support that David Wagner and the players repeatedly tell us helps their performances on the pitch."
