MARTIN ALLEN reckons 19-year-old Notts County defender Haydn Hollis couldn’t have had a tougher test on his league debut.

But the Meadow Lane manager believes his decision to pit the centre-back against Town hot shot Jordan Rhodes was correct.

“I’m sure a few eyebrows were raised, and nobody saw it coming. It was a big decision, but one I’m pleased with,” said Allen.

“He was up against the best striker outside the Premier League and it was a fantastic performance.”

Notts snapped a four-match losing run as they fought back from two down for a draw against Town.

“I’m very proud of the players, but then I am most weeks,” he said. “We’ve been losing games, but our performances have been good.

“To go 2-0 down, we could have folded and the players could have hidden, but they didn’t and we deserved a draw. It was a great comeback.”
