Adam Clayton fired In the last-gasp goal which sealed Town’s Championship survival and smiled: “Let’s go and enjoy the last two games of the season.”
The midfielder’s seventh goal of the season arrived seven minutes into time added on at Yeovil, where Town won 2-1 to move seven points above third-bottom Blackpool.
An injury to Danny Ward, who was left dazed after a collision with Shane Duffy early in the second half, led to the additional time.
Nahki Wells, also with his seventh of the season, put Town ahead in the 69th minute before Tom Lawrence levelled in the 71st.
“We needed that, added Clayton. “For once I don’t have to study that league table over and over, and now I want to enjoy the end of the season.
“We always felt confident we would stay up, but it has taken us far too long, and to get it signed, sealed and delivered is great.
“Yeovil put everything on the line. They were attacking with eight players by the end, but we always knew we could hit them on the counter.
“It’s come with virtually the last kick, and that’s football fate, if you like. We’ve done it and we’re there now.”
It was Town’s first win in 11 games and Clayton continued: “It’s been frustrating and we have fallen below our standards, but now we can look forward.”
