CONFIDENT Town were today setting sights on the three automatic promotion places and gunning towards their best League run for over four years.

Peter Jackson's side will be hunting a fifth straight Third Division win when Boston visit the McAlpine on Saturday after Jon Stead's penalty and Jon Worthington's overhead kick sealed the 2-1 win at Cambridge and a sixth league placing - the highest since October.

Town, who haven't won five League games on the trot since late in 1999, are itching to close a nine-point gap on the leading trio and Jackson believes his resurgent side have the ability to push on from here.

"We have got a group of young lads who are their own worst critics and who want to work hard and they have battled themselves into a great position," said Jackson, who expects skipper Rob Edwards (hamstring) to miss the Boston match.

"The lads are going well, playing for each other and, even though we know we can play better than we are, they are producing the consistency that we need to challenge at the top.

"Playing like we are, we've got nothing to fear in this division and we can't wait for the games to come around. Confidence is high and I'm thrilled for the players."

Goalkeeper Phil Senior (dead-leg) is also under treatment following a fourth successive win in which he was beaten only late on by Adam Tann.

"We were solid at the back and, while it wasn't a classic, we took our goals well to make it 12 points out of 12 and put ourselves up there," added Jackson of an unchanged team.

"Jon Worthington is going to be a real asset if he can add more goals to his workrate, determination and tackling and Steady never seems to miss from the spot.

"Considering we had every fit and available player to fill a 16, I was delighted with the result and the lads all gave it 110%. Their attitude and desire was fantastic and when we play like that, our destiny is in our own hands for this season."

Jackson has still had no further offers for Stead, who took his tally for the season to 18.

"That's not in my hands, it is up to the Premiership and First Division clubs who have watched him," he said. "As I've said many times, we want to keep him, which is why we turned down £800,000 from Sunderland.

"But every player has his price and it's up to clubs to match that price."
