Oliver Norwood has completed his reported £1.2m move from Huddersfield Town to Championship rivals Reading.

The 23-year-old Northern Ireland midfielder has played 90 times since moving from Manchester United for £400,000 two years ago.

Norwood was in the final year of a three-year Town contract and has signed the same length of deal at Reading.

He will go straight into Nigel Adkins’ squad for the visit to leaders Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Town had already transferred midfielder Adam Clayton for an initial £1.5m to Middlesbrough.

Jacob Butterfield has arrived from the Teesside club for £750,000 and Conor Coady from Liverpool for £375,000.

Town also have Forest midfielder Radi Majewski on a season-long loan and said in a statement: “With the arrival of these players, Norwood’s opportunities have immediately become restricted.”

Norwood, who watched from the stand as Town won 2-1 at Reading on Tuesday, said: “There’s been a lot of waiting around, doing a medical and other bits.

“Everything excites me about the move, the size and stature of the club.

“Just being in and around the place, there seems to be a real excitement about the young players.

“It just seems like a good place to be at the moment.”

Adkins said: “Oliver’s a good footballer. He had a good upbringing at Manchester United.

“He’s got games under his belt now in the Football League.

“He’s a good age at 23 and he can only improve by coming into this environment.

“He will fit in well with the players because he’s got a great attitude.

“He’s athletic and has a great pass on him. He gets all round the pitch.”
