ADAM HAMMILL is hoping he’s done enough to stay at Huddersfield Town.

The Wolves winger has started the last two matches for Simon Grayson’s side but is ineligible for today’s FA Cup third-round tie at Charlton.

That leaves him with just the home game against Birmingham next Saturday before his loan runs out.

It was in the wake of the 1-0 win at Birmingham in October that Hammill, 24, was at the centre of an incident in his home city of Liverpool which led to 12 weeks’ imprisonment suspended for 12 months after he pleaded guilty to a drunken assault on two female paramedics.

“It’s been a tough few months, and what went on certainly affected my football,” said the former Liverpool trainee and England Under 21 player who has played 15 times in all for Town (six starts) and scored once, in the 4-2 defeat by Peterborough at London Road in October.

“The loan has been frustrating. It started really well for me but then I got injured when trying to defend, which I’m not renowned for.

“Then I had the trouble in Liverpool, which I deeply regret, but I am trying to put that behind me.

“I feel like I have a new lease of life, and something to prove to everyone, both in terms of being a footballer and a role model.

“I am very grateful for all the help the manager and his staff have given me since I’ve been here, and I am trying to do everything I can to show I am worthy of staying at this great club.

“I want to be a part of things as Town move forward, which I believe they will do.”

Boss Grayson says he will delay a decision on Hammill until after the game against Birmingham.

An FA Youth Cup winner with Liverpool in 2006, he never made the Reds first team.

Hammill gained his first experience of senior football on loan to Dunfermline in 2006-07, when he was a starter in the 1-0 Scottish Cup final defeat by Celtic at Hampden.

He also had loans at Southampton, Blackpool and Barnsley before moving to Oakwell permanently in August 2009.

Wolves, then in the Premier League, signed him two years ago.

But he has had to make do with just 23 appearances for the Molineux side and had a loan spell at Middlesbrough last season before joining Town in the last day of the August transfer window.

Hammill, who has shown glimpses of his talent while at Town but struggled for consistency, is under contract at Wolves until 2014.

Town’s Championship rivals have indicated they would consider an offer to sign him permanently, and will hope to do business this month.
