It's Portugal versus Austria as Huddersfield Town and Bournemouth continue their countdown to their August 9 Championship opener at the John Smith’s Stadium.

While Mark Robins and his squad fly out to the Algarve on Sunday for their week-long trip, Eddie Howe has already led the Cherries to Bad Waltersdorf.

The Bournemouth party includes newly-signed striker Callum Wilson, who played under Robins at Coventry and was recruited after Lewis Grabban’s switch to Norwich.

Howe is putting his players through their paces ahead of a game against fellow tourists FC Copenhagen on Friday.

Town have a behind-closed-doors game against Doncaster in Portugal next Tuesday before facing Olhanense a week on Saturday.

Bournemouth, who have also signed midfielder Dan Gosling from Newcastle and winger Junior Stanislas from Burnley, have other pre-season dates with Southampton, Portsmouth and Swansea.

Howe believes the Austrian trip will prove crucial as his side aim to improve on last season’s 10th-placed finish.

“It’s good to take the players away from their normal environment,” said Howe, now in his second spell at Bournemouth after a stint at Burnley.

“It’s a real change of focus where we can hone in on the work – the tactical side, the technical side and the physical side.

“You get a chance to really get to know the players, you get the chance for the new players to mix with the old ones, and try and form a new team that is going to take you into the season.

“Of course you get a couple of opportunities to team-build and we’ve got a really good game as well.

“We encourage a real unity within our team. We need everyone to have the same goals and the same vision and we’ll continue to encourage that and work on that throughout the season.”

Doncaster, who were relegated from the Championship and start their League I campaign at Yeovil, have former Town manager Brian Horton as assistant to Paul Dickov.

He is enjoying pre-season so far, and said: “It’s important that we work hard and forget about last season now, it’s gone. We know what we need to do this season.

“We have some good friendlies lined up, including the Huddersfield game, which will be tough, and it’s all geared towards the match at Yeovil.

Doncaster also have friendlies against Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Yeovil recently signed former Town midfielder James Berrett from Carlisle.

The Town academy product has agreed a two-year deal with the Somerset club, who like Doncaster, were relegated to the third tier last season.

The 25-year-old had a four-year stay at Brunton Park, scoring 27 goals in 198 games, after making 41 appearances for Town.
