AFC EMLEY took a point from their Northern Counties East League Division I clash earning a 1-1 draw after trailing to Leeds Carnegie.

They welcomed back Marc Townsend in midfield and captain Andy Farrell, who started up front with Danny Clapham while Stephen Kenworthy dropped back into midfield.

With both Anthony Leech and Matt Neesam unavailable, Lee Hill played at left back, and new signing Darren Barrick was on the bench alongside Rotherham United youngster Danny Wilson.

Emley had the first real chance of the game when Farrell made an opening and played in Clapham who shot wide.

A minute later Farrell, Clapham and Kenworthy combined with the latter’s shot deflecting off the outside of a post.

Emley then had a goal disallowed for offside, Kenworthy and Clapham again combining well to work the ball to Paul Quinn who lifted the ball over the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.

Emley’s best chance came on 25 minutes – Farrell found himself one-on-one with the keeper but as he shot Carnegie keeper Giles got down well to push the ball away.

Minutes before half time Emley were lucky not to go behind when, from a corner, Carnegie’s Cooper was left unmarked at the far post but his header went over the crossbar.

At half time the injured Farrell was replaced by Barrick and Quinn was also substituted in favour of Mark Stuart.

Carnegie started the half positively and saw a shot crash against a post, the ball spun across the goal and Green made an excellent save down to his left on the line. The ball was partially cleared, but was put back into the box and a header crashed off the bar and was finally cleared.

Carnegie then had a goal disallowed for offside but they finally opened the scoring when a speculative ball down the centre put Carnegie’s Chiltern in to score but Emley hit back and Stuart had a shot from inside the box smartly saved as it looked to spin inside the post.

Emley were breaking well from midfield with both Joice and Townsend running hard at the Carnegie defence. It was this combination that carved out the equaliser. A run by Joice saw Townsend beat a defender at the dead ball line. His drilled cross was deflected in at the near post by Carnegie defender Rossitter.

Emley are at home to third-placed Rainworth Miners Welfare tomorrow (7.45pm).
