TOWN striker Pawel Abbott was set to sign for Swansea City today in a £150,000 deal.

Talks were ongoing at the Liberty Stadium with Abbott poised to join Town's eighth-placed League I rivals.

The former Polish Under 21 striker was rumoured to be attracting interest from Colchester, Derby, Ipswich, Luton, Bradford and Bristol City.

But Swansea chief Kenny Jackett moved with a cash offer while Town were scoring a fine 2-1 win at Bournemouth on Saturday to jump to 11th in the standings with home games against Chesterfield and Gillingham hot on the horizon.

Barring any last-minute breakdown, Abbott will move to replace Rory Fallon, who Swansea sold to Plymouth for £300,000. Swansea are also expected to offload ex-Town loan man Leon Knight to MK Dons.

Abbott, who completed a three-match ban on Saturday for his sending-off at Doncaster, has fallen behind Andy Booth and Luke Beckett in Peter Jackson's pecking order and would have been able to move for free in the summer because his Galpharm contract was up.

With 10 days of the transfer window still left, Jackson has confirmed there will be transfer movement "in and out" of the Galpharm but wouldn't be drawn on potential targets.

Abbott has five goals this season and 51 in almost three years at Town.
