Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic fought out a 0-0 draw in a dull encounter at the John Smith's Stadium as manager Chris Powell got his first point on the board.

Town came closest to breaking the deadlock when Nahki Wells raced through in the first half but was denied by a smothering save from Latics shot-stopper Scott Carson before Alex Smithies was called upon at the other end to deny Emyr Huws a second-half winner in a lifeless affair.

There were returns to the starting lineup for Jonathan Stead and Danny Ward, with the latter replaced at half-time by the lively Sean Scannell due to a migraine, as it emerged calf injury victim James Vaughan could be sidelined for up to four weeks.
