TOWN have scrapped plans for their pre-season tour to Sweden.

Manager Andy Ritchie believes the trip - due to start on July 8 - is too early in the training programme.

Fans who have already booked for the tour - which was due to include one match in Sweden and another in Denmark - will get their money back from organisers PlayHard Sports.

Ritchie explained: "The players will come back in to the club on Saturday, June 30, for a bit of a fun training session, and then we will start pre-season in earnest on the Monday.

"To go away the next weekend and play twice the following midweek would, in my opinion, put the lads under too much pressure so early in the training schedule, both from a football point of view and a fitness point of view.

"Instead, I am going to look at the possibility of playing a game away from home against league opposition on Saturday, July 14 - hopefully with three 30-minute segments so we can switch the squad around.

"Doing it that way, we will have 11 full days of training before we play and that should be much better for our build-up."
