AS Town look to pocket a £2m windfall and promotion from the play-offs, manager Lee Clark is demanding the team take a solid first step against Bournemouth today.

The Galpharm boss – whose team are on Sky Sports 1 for the 12.45 kick-off – is keen for Town to replicate the form of their 25-match unbeaten run and put themselves in a strong position for the home semi-final second leg on Wednesday.

“Everyone in the squad has been making a contribution and that needs to continue, because Bournemouth have good players, a strong work ethic and lots of pace,” said Clark.

“But we are full of confidence both individually and collectively and if we go about our business in the right way then I’m sure we’ll be fine.

“You can’t look too far ahead of yourself, otherwise you’ll end up with egg on your face.

“It’s cup football and, certainly, in this first game we’ve got to do everything in the right manner to give ourselves the opportunity to do the business in the second game as well.”

League I clubs picked up £640,000 each this season while Championship clubs took £2.4m from the Football League pool.

With an annual increase of around £1.76m to be added to the total, together with the spin-offs and merchandising from playing in the play-offs, success would provide Town with a significant windfall to help chairman Dean Hoyle prop up the club.

All four semi-finalists receive £40,000 from Sky Sports, although there is no fee for the final. Gate receipts from the four League I semi-finals are pooled – with the four competing clubs banking an equal share of half and the other 50% going to the Football League pool.

The two finalists receive 25% of the Old Trafford gate receipts (May 29) with the other 50% to the League pot.

Town and the other 71 members of the Football League then receive an equal share of the pool, which includes monies from the Championship and League II play-offs.
