TOWN'S first-team squad are backing the new Blue and White Foundation.

Gearing up for a launch in December, the Foundation will provide valuable funding for the Academy.

Town's target is to get 2,000 members and, just a fortnight after it was announced, more than 350 have signed up.

McAlpine manager Peter Jackson was the first of those and now his entire Division III squad have followed suit.

Foundation manager Tracy Nelson said: "It is great that Peter and the lads are giving their full support and we are getting a steady flow of applications every day.

"The big attraction for people is that while they are giving to the club, they are also getting something back through all the associated benefits.

"And the chance to win one of the big cash prizes every month, plus the £10,000 jackpot prize at the end of the year, is proving very popular."

More than 200 people signed up when the scheme was announced to a packed McAlpine banqueting suite by chief executive Andrew Watson on September 3.

Among those pledging £2 per week is Peter Sargent of the Supporters Trust, and Town plan a recruitment drive over the next two months.

Members get free weekend membership for Stadium Health and Fitness Club, 5% of next year's season-ticket, priority for big-match tickets, the chance to attend various social events and an organised meeting with Town directors twice a year.

The Foundation will also present Player of the Month and Player of the Year awards, while the weekly cash draws will involve every paid-up member and 572 prizes a year will be handed out.

"We had over 1,000 people expressing an interest at the outset and they are all going to receive Foundation Packs," added Tracy.

"The fact that our Academy players are continually breaking through into the first team shows the worth of the Foundation.

"We are launching on December 4 with a cash draw and people who want to join can get forms or ring me on 484141."
