Huddersfield Town received a welcome workout and a clean sheet at that as they drew 0-0 with Deportivo de La Coruna in their high-profile friendly encounter.

It was a largely even affair, with both sides having opportunities to secure a win, but Town were delighted to earn a clean sheet after such a testing weekend at Rochdale.

But how did each Town player rank after holding the former Champions League semi-finalists to a goalless stalemate?

In pictures: Huddersfield Town 0-0 Deportivo de La Coruna

Smithies - Reliable enough when called upon in the opening period and was very seldom stretched in his 45-minute cameo role. 6

Smith - Recovered from a difficult opening up against the dangerous Miguel Cardoso to deliver an accomplished display on the right-hand side of defence. 6

Hudson - One piece of skill in the first half drew praise from the Town fans and he looked far more comfortable than he did in the defensive debacle at Rochdale. 6

Wallace - Credit where credit's due. Faces a fight to get into the starting lineup for the opening day but did his chances no harm whatsoever here with a commanding display at the back and Chris Powell was clearly happy enough with him to leave him on the field for the entirety of the 90. 7

Davidson - Another who shone brighter than most with a performance that combined diligence with good passing and a desire to get into the attacking third of the field. 7

Whitehead - A slight dip in standards for the battling midfielder, who has caught the eye in the preceding friendlies but was caught in possession by the tricky, cunning Spaniards. 5

Butterfield - A quiet evening for Town's key playmaker, who played the usual neat passing game he is associated with but was effective at the back too, although his set-piece delivery was sadly lacking. 6

Scannell - Not able to truly test the Depor left-back enough with his pace but that wasn't for the want of trying as he kept making clever runs. 6

Dempsey - Town fans treated him to a rousing reception and he deserved it after an all-action display with some clever trickery and neat use of the ball. 7

Hiwula - Looked isolated at times on the left flank but was a threat in the first half and his ability on the ball looks promising. 6

Wells - Eager and lively early on but, after a raft of substitutions, the game died somewhat and he faded like many others. 6

Substitutes:

Murphy - Good positioning to save from Luis Fernandez. 6

Lynch - Solid in the challenge and very rarely caught wandering like he did at Rochdale. 6

Hogg - Gave Town a much-needed composed head deep in midfield and kept things tidy. 6

Lolley - Made some promising runs but struggled to make a true impression. 5

Bunn - Never really got the chance to make his mark. 5

Cranie - Won some aerial duels and did little wrong. 5

Vaughan - Barely got a touch of the ball as he chased lost causes up front. 5

Boyle - Linked up well with fellow sub Hammill down the left. Did well in a short space of time. 6

Hammill - As above. Showed a willingness to get the ball into the area. 6

Holmes - Only on for the final few minutes and didn't get involved. 5
