Huddersfield Town are being linked with Liverpool midfielder Daniel Trickett-Smith and Aston Villa defender Kevin Toner.

Trickett-Smith, 20, was signed from Crewe Alexandra for an initial £300,000 in April 2012.

The Anfield club held off competition from Manchester City to land their target on a five-year contract.

He progressed from Under 18 to Under 21 level and featured in the NextGen series of games.

But Trickett-Smith, born in Newcastle-under-Lyme, has yet to break into the first team.

Irish centre-back or left-back Toner, 19, has already captained Villa’s Under 21 side.

Aston Villa player Kevin Toner

Born in Ashbourne, North of Dublin, he is a Republic of Ireland Under 19 international who joined Villa from Home Farm in 2012.

Toner’s only first-team experience is via a loan spell at National League Kidderminster Harriers.

He made six appearance for the Black Country side.

Villa have the option to extend a contract which runs out this summer by a further 12 months.

Toner is said to be a no-nonsense player who is dominant in the air and tough in the tackle.

He also provides a serious threat at set-pieces because of his height and physical presence.
