Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes Joel Lynch's brand of aggressive play will make QPR stronger in the Championship this season.

Lynch completed his move from Huddersfield Town to Loftus Road last week and the Rs boss revealed that his new signing ticked all the boxes for what he was looking for in a centre back.

Hasselbaink admitted “the big aim is to get promotion" but he is focused on building a strong team.

"Lynch is somebody with experience, somebody who is left footed as well and gives us a little bit of balance," said Hasselbaink.

“We needed to fill Clint Hill’s spot with someone who can play week in, week out, three matches and Joel is somebody like that.

"He brings a lot of character to our team and he is somebody who can make us stronger.

“It was also important to have people who know the league, can steer the others who don't and who can lead in the dressing room and on the pitch."

Lynch's knack for receiving yellow cards but avoiding red cards and suspensions was also important for the QPR recruitment strategy.

"We like players who are committed and will play for the club, for the shirt," added Hasselbaink.

“We like the right aggressivity especially in our centre halves - Joel plays on the edge and we want that.”

Town could receive as much as £1.5m for the services of a player who spent four years at the John Smith's Stadium.
