Former Huddersfield Town midfielder Oscar Gobern is on trial at Championship rivals QPR.

The 24-year-old has gone on the West London club’s pre-season tour of Italy.

The Rangers party also includes striker Charlie Austin, linked with a move away in the wake of relegation from the Premier League.

Former England Under 19 international Gobern had been linked with Coventry City, Crewe Alexandra and Walsall.

Signed from Southampton for a tribunal-fixed £275,000 in 2011, the Birmingham-born former Aston Villa youth player made 79 Town appearances.

He has had an injury-plagued couple of seasons, and was loaned to Chesterfield last October, but made an impact at Town during the closing stages of the campaign.

Rangers’ tour takes in includes friendlies against Shakhtar Donetsk, AS Monaco and Al Ittihad.
