ANDY BOOTH today looked forward to a new era under Stan Ternent and his old teammate Ronnie Jepson and insisted: “Taking orders won’t be a problem.”

The 176-goal striker learned his craft alongside Jepson in the mid-Nineties, with the pair teaming up to spearhead Town’s memorable promotion to the Championship in 1995.

Now the target is the same but the relationship different, with Jepson working alongside the vastly experienced Ternent and Booth a senior player.

“Ronnie and I had some great times playing together and we’ve stayed in touch down the years,” said Booth, who has just been awarded a new one-year contract.

“I’ve played against his sides but not for one of them until now. It’s something new for me, but it certainly won’t be a problem.

“He was always the boss when we were out on the pitch together and I’ve always listened closely to what he’s said, and that won’t change.”

On last week’s appointments, Booth said: “We’ve got two experienced men in charge and we’re all optimistic about next season.

“The club seemed at a low ebb a month ago. But since then we’ve had a new man on the board (Dean Hoyle) as well as a new manager and assistant.

“And with the season-ticket offer taking off (more than 7,500 have been sold so far) it looks like we’ll be playing in front of some decent crowds next season.

“That can only help us get to where we all want to be, and there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic.”

After scoring his 142nd Town goal in the 2-0 home win over Walsall, Booth aims to boost that tally further in the final League I game at Luton on Saturday, when Ternent’s men will be aiming for a fourth straight win and a sixth match unbeaten since the 4-1 drubbing at Oldham which preceded Andy Ritchie’s departure.

The 34-year-old added: “We’ve had a good run of late, and after putting in a lot of hard work to help make that happen, we all want to make sure we finish on a high.”
