I had a complaint from a Huddersfield  Town fan on Twitter that I was writing about the Premier League and he was only interested in what goes on at the John Smith’s Stadium.

While I can understand his frustration, I have to ask: How can you not be interested in great football?

It’s brilliant that Town have had a decent start, they are going to be competitive, Mark Robins has got them tough to beat and James Vaughan is again in top form.

But I reckon all football fans have got to love the Premier League – especially at the moment.

There is a real buzz to the top flight this time and Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have all impressed magnificently.

I know Town fans have their focus on exactly what is happening in the club and results in the blue and white stripes, but most will have a favourite Premier League team as well.

Sometimes the start to the season can be a bit flat because the expectation is so high, but this time the performances on the pitch and all the stories surrounding them have really lived up to the hype.

United sticking four past Swansea with RVP in prime form and Rooney not celebrating with his teammates, Luis Suarez unable to play for another half dozen games but walking around the pitch in his Liverpool shirt, Jose Mourinho back in arguments on the touchline and Alan Pardew’s plans in total disarray at Newcastle – and they’ve played only one game!

Then you add in the performance of Manchester City against Pardew’s side and the world record transfer of Gareth Bale from Tottenham to Real Madrid and you’ve got pretty much everything you could want.

If you are a fan, then you’ve got to love your football this season and the prospect of what’s ahead is fantastic.

So I can understand where the gent who had a go at me on Twitter is coming from.

But I offer no apologies for my view that this season Premier League is going to be a cracker.

The introduction of goalline technology is another aspect – it made me laugh last week because the TV companies were almost having to find an excuse to use it! – and I would point you in the direction of Sky’s Monday Night Football and the contribution of Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.

It amounts to three or four hours of serious, intelligent, passionate football talk around the action and it’s absolutely brilliant.

More so because here are two players who made the most of what they had throughout their careers, who were totally honest in the dressing room and on the pitch and they have the credibility to slaughter sides and tell them where they are going wrong.

They have that respect, and MNF is fantastic to watch as a football fan.
