Huddersfield Town host local rivals Rotherham United this evening looking to bounce back from their 1-0 weekend defeat at Reading.

It is the first mid-week game of the season for Town at the John Smith's Stadium as David Wagner's men aim to return to the top of the SkyBet Championship with a win tonight.

However, they will have to do it with a raft of suspensions - Rajiv van La Parra, Mark Hudson and Chris Lowe all out after the trip to the Madejski Stadium.

It should signal a first start for fans favourite Michael Hefele as well as a debut at full-back for Tareiq Holmes-Dennis.

Opposition Rotherham United, who sit second bottom and without a win in over a month, will be without defender Stephen Kelly but on-loan Cardiff City Tom Adeyemi could return.

Bringing you all the action from this evening's Yorkshire derby is Examiner Football Writer Blake Welton with expert analysis from Doug Thomson.

Signing Off

Well that’s it for tonight’s LIVE Blog in what has been another enjoyable win for Town fans to savour.

But none of us have too long to revel in the victory as David Wagner’s side will once again be in action on Saturday as they face a long trip to Suffolk to face Ipswich Town.

Until then, keep following the Examiner website, the Examiner Town Facebook page and @ExaminerHTAFC for all the latest Town news, views and opinion.

Analysis: Huddersfield Town 2 Rotherham United 1

Huddersfield Town are back at the top of the Championship but they made harder work of it then it really should have been.

An Elias Kachunga goal in the second minute dispelled any issues lingering from the weekend before David Wagner’s men where dealt a sucker punch with a Rotherham equaliser against the run of play.

Nahki Wells quickly restored the lead before the interval but the second-half proved more nervy than it should have been - Town unable to take further chances which would have seen the game won by a more comfortable scoreline.

FT: Huddersfield Town 2 Rotherham United 1

That’s it! The referee blows the final whistle and Town go back to the top of the Sky Bet Championship.

It may only be for a day but it’s still a great feeling as the fans shout out ‘Top of the League’

Boy it’s been hard work tonight though!

Atmosphere

It’s just gone up a notch as the Town faithful are trying to roar the side onto victory.

  • Share

Added Time

There’s four added minutes to go (and hold on).

  • Share

Substitution

Sean Scannell replaced by Jon Gorenc Stankovic - with just two minutes of normal time remaining looks like David Wagner is shutting up shop.

Meanwhile, Greg Halford replaces Tom Adeyemi.

In the Book

Said he looked lively - a bit too lively, Jack Payne goes into the book for a foul on Adeyemi.

  • Share

Too Close!

Substitute Forde is into the action already - whipping in a delicious cross which Tom Adeyemi heads inches wide.

Too close for comfort.

  • Share

Double Substitution

Rotherham are going for it - Anthony Forde and Dexter Blackstock are on in place of Newell and Brown.

Can’t believe I am saying it but there’s five minutes left for Town to hold on!!

  • Share

Chance!

That would have made it a lot more comfortable - Jack Payne twists and turns but blasts his shot well over the bar.

The diminutive midfielder has looked lively since he has come on...

Attendance

Today’s attendance has been announced as 18,808 - the John Smith’s Stadium did fill up after all!

  • Share

Substitution

Dean Whitehead is replaced by Jonathan Hogg - into the last ten minutes here, Rotherham looking far too dangerous for my liking.

Fan View

I hope so Malky - Town should be out of sight by now.

  • Share

Substitution

First substitution of the night and it’s Kasey Palmer leaving the field for Jack Payne.

  • Share

Worrying Times

It is still only 2-1 to Town - and Rotherham are just starting to creep back into this...

  • Share

Cynical

A quick break from Elias Kachunga is crudely halted by Joe Newell - making no attempt to get the ball.

  • Share

HEFELE!!

Is close but no cigar to go with the dressing gown...Another corner finds the big German but his first header is blocked and his second attempt is smashed wide!!

60 Minutes

Huddersfield Town 2 Rotherham 1. Another goal please Town - I don’t want a nervous night.

  • Share

Sean Scannell

The wideman has worked hard on his return to the team tonight but goes into the referees notebook for a foul on Darnell Fisher.

  • Share

Fan View

Some fans have their phones on at the moment as well - got to love an evening game....

  • Share

Pressure

Corners galore at the moment for Huddersfield Town but Rotherham are staying resolute at the minute.

  • Share

Warning Sign

And minutes later, just a little warning for Town that a one-goal advantage is not enough....a clever move involving Izzy Brown and Jon Taylor ends with Frecklington firing narrowly wide.

  • Share

Close!!

Another chance for Town - Palmer’s cross hits Hefele at the back post and bounces just wide.

The whole place would have erupted if that went in!!

  • Share

Ward on Ward

Not the only one who finds this sort of Doppelganger mayhem funny then...

  • Share

All Town...

Opening exchanges of the second 45 minutes have been all Town - Kasey Palmer putting the ball into the box but Mooy’s attempt is blocked for a corner.

The resultant set-piece from the Australian is easily caught by Lee Camp though.

Second Half

A quick dash to the toilet and I’m back in position for the second-half - Town getting the second 45 minutes underway.

HT: Huddersfield Town 2 Rotherham United 1

The referee blows the whistle for the end of the first 45 minutes - a great start for Town after two minutes through Elias Kachunga which put paid to any bad memories from the weekend.

Town then went on to dominate the first half but looked to be undone by a Rotherham United goal against the run of play.

But normal service was resumed minutes later as Nahki Wells tucked in Town’s second after good work from Sean Scannell.

Stick with us - I think there is going to be more action, and goals in the second half...

Added Time

Two minutes to be added to what has been an entertaining first 45 minutes.

  • Share

Ouch!!

Can’t really argue with that - Dean Whitehead goes into the book for a high challenge on Lee Frecklington.
