AFC Emley won their first home league game of the season, beating Grimsby Borough 3-0.

In the ideal build-up to tomorrow’s Northern Counties East Division I trip to Scarborough (at Bridlington Town), Emley controlled the match with keeper Mick Clarke having only one meaningful save to make.

Skipper Andy Farrell opened the scoring for Ian Banks’s side after 27 minutes, sneaking in at the back post to fire the ball home.

Steve Kenworthy doubled the lead five minutes into the second half with a first-time strike after Neil Redfearn’s excellent pass had split the Borough defence.

Redfearn completed the scoring himself from the penalty spot only four minutes later, after a push in the box had been spotted by the referee.

The only down side for AFC was an attendance of 95, but Town were at home in the Carling Cup and Liverpool were on TV.
