Roy Keane’s presence at Huddersfield Town’s final-day Championship match against Brentford has got tongues wagging.

Home supporters in a 13,397 tickets-issued crowd might well have been wondering whether former Manchester United and Republic star Keane was checking on Sean Scannell .

The winger, back to full fitness following a knee injury, has represented the Republic at Under 17, 18, 19, 21 and B level.

Scannell, 25, made his 21st start of the season and 30th appearance in all against Brentford, who won 5-1 .

O’Neill must name his squad at least 10 days before their Group E opener against Sweden in Paris on Monday, June 13.

The Republic also face Belgium in Bordeaux on Saturday 18 and Italy in Lille on Wednesday 22.
