TOWN Reserves are still powering along at the top of the totesport.com Central League East Division.

Mick Docherty’s side maintained their 100% start to the season with a 3-2 victory against Barnsley’s second string at Oakwell last night.

Despite the home side including Reuben Noble-Lazarus, the Newsome High student who created history as the youngest ever Football League player a fortnight ago, Town set up a commanding 3-0 lead before holding off a late rally.

Striker Daniel Broadbent opened the scoring for Town after 17 minutes, his fourth goal in as many starts for the second string.

It wasn’t until just after the hour, however, that Town – with Shane Killock included after his loan spell at Harrogate – took complete control with goals from Academy duo Jack Hunt (63 minutes) and Ireland youth cap Dave Heagney (65).

The victory adds to those against Leeds United, Scunthorpe United, Hartlepool United and Rotherham United and matches the club’s best ever start to a reserve season since 1961-62.
