LINTHWAITE Under 17s gained revenge for a 6-1 league mauling by beating Liversedge 2-0 to reach the cup final.

Liversedge had lost just once in six matches and were on a high, while Linthwaite had seen their highly-promising start to the season fade since Christmas and, with only an outside chance of league honours, this represented the Colne Valley club’s best chance of silverware.

Linthwaite started the stronger but, despite dominating play for long periods, extra-time was looking a strong possibility until Josh Shields finally broke the stalemate to give Linthwaite a vital edge.

Although Liversedge pressed hard for an equaliser, they never showed the kind of form which had given them six goals last time the sides met.

Ewan Hanley-Heeley settled the issue with a second goal late in the game to send Linthwaite into the final, where they will meet the winners of this Sunday’s semi-final between Kirkheaton and Bradford United.

Thomas Boothroyd scored for Netherton as the Second Division side hoped to upset the odds by beating First Division Collegians in the first semi-final of the Under 13 cup.

But Collegians were in no mood to let a cup final appearance slip away and, with goals from Jacob Finneran (2), Jack McDonagh and Ben Harrison the Salendine Nook side ran out comfortable 4-1 winners.

They will meet with either Britannia or Ossett Town, who contest their semi on Sunday.

Collegians Under 14s were not as successful when the Second Division side met up with Howden Clough of the First Division.

Collegians put in a spirited performance and goals from Conner Tuff and Jordan Towned kept the opposition on their toes, but Clough proved too strong in the end and goals from Thornton, Gaunt, Mitchell, Barron and Briggs gave Clough the victory and a place in the final.

They will meet Barugh, who overcame the challenge of Dalton Dynamoes in the other semi.

The Dynamoes have a strong pedigree in the cup at all age groups but, unfortunately for the Under 14s, the cup won’t be going back to Dalton this year. Despite a goal from Sommerville, Barugh ran out 4-1 winners.

The shock result was, without question, in the Under 15s where Dalton Dynamoes played out a thrilling seven-goal semi-final with Batley.

Last year’s Under 14 champions and County Cup winners are leading the RCD League again this time and there was little to suggest that Second Division Dalton would pose any kind of threat to Batley’s dominance.

But, in a see-saw game where the lead fluctuated, it was Dalton who booked their place in the final.

Jon-Jo Keogh, Richard Normally and Craig Bentley were on target for Batley but Dalton went one better through Gary Nixon (2), Israel Johnson and Ryan Hall to set up a final meeting with the winners of the Howden Clough v Westend clash.

In a tight Under 16 semi-final, Warley Rangers and Rothwell were unable to break the deadlock until deep into the second half when Jordan Hyde scored for Rothwell.

With only 10 minutes to salvage the game, Warley were forced to push everyone forward but the plan didn’t work out and further goals from Hyde and Jack Griffith settled the issue in Rothwell’s favour.

Rothwell’s cup final date will be against the winners of Sunday’s semi-final between Thornhill and Lepton Highlanders.

Penistone were unable to find a reply as goals from George Payton and Daniel Laban were enough to give Wyke Wanderers victory in their Under 12 semi-final.

Wyke now go on to meet either Clifton Rangers or YMCA who play for a place in the final this weekend.
