HUDDERSFIELD Town Ladies played an excellent game of football against high flying Darlington and were unlucky not to come away with at least a share of the points, going down 3-2.
Town went ahead on six minutes when their player-of-the-match Jade Robshaw showed an excellent first touch and then lobbed the Darlington keeper from 20 yards.
Darlington levelled when a long through ball landed just outside Town’s area and centre-back Caitlin Walsh could only succeed in guiding her attempted clearance over the head of Town keeper Laura Carter and into the net.
Undeterred, Town went ahead again with another excellent finish from Jo Symington before the break.
In the second half Darlington started the stronger and Town struggled to gain their first half momentum and control, the home side scoring twice inside five minutes. Town created a number of chances and Robshaw appeared through on goal when a last ditch tackle saved Darlington. Further chances fell to both Katie Barnes and Abby Iggledon but Town could not find the finish they needed.
The Under 15’s reversed the defeat from Bradford City the previous week with an excellent 1-0 away win. This was Bradford’s first loss of the season and Town moved up to third in the table. Town’s goal was scored by Shauna Messenger.
The Under 13s dropped their first league points of the season after a 4-4 draw at Idle Juniors.
Idle started the game the stronger and took an early 2-0 lead. Town fought back with two goals from Lucy Ellis and Alice Linsell, to take a 3-2 half-time lead.
Idle took the lead again in the second half to lead 4-3, but Town showed their fighting spirit and equalised with a hat trick goal from Ellis to earn the draw and she was also awarded the player of the match trophy.
