WELL-TAKEN strikes by Dave Hibbert and Stephen Brogan ensured Town finished their Pontin's Holidays League Cup campaign without a point or a goal to their name.
After earlier 2-0 defeats by West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday ended any chance of progress to the knockout stages, the Galpharm second string were at least hoping to salvage some pride.
But despite plenty of possession, efforts on the Millers goal were scarce.
The best came after 21 minutes, when from a John McAliskey cross, Daniel Racchi's shot was blocked and Matt Young's follow-up drive well saved by Gary Montgomery.
Rotherham went ahead on the half hour when striker Marc Newsham, whose ninth-minute flick was well held by Paul Rachubka, pounced on a John McCombe slip on the edge of the area and laid the ball off to fellow frontman Hibbert, who tucked a low right-foot shot between the keeper and his left-hand post.
Young fired over from distance and Adnan Ahmed tested Montgomery with a shot on the turn as Town sought a quick reply.
But the home side found themselves trailing by two goals on 42 minutes as midfielder Brogan took possession 25 yards out and chipped right-footed. Rachubka got a hand to the ball but couldn't keep it out.
Rotherham had the better of what second-half chances there were.
Rachubka held shots by midfielder Jamie Yates and Newsham, while Brogan's 84th-minute left-foot shot hit the keeper's right-hand angle.
Rachubka then plucked a 20-yard free-kick by the same player from under the bar.
Town skipper McCombe was booked for a foul on right-back Scott Wiseman.
