GARETH SEDDON was presented with the Blue Square North Player of the Month Award as FC Halifax Town scored a 3-1 home win against Gainsborough Trinity yesterday.
Seddon has been in excellent form, but he wasn’t the star of the Boxing Day show at The Shay – that honour went to right-back Ryan Toulson.
He set up the first two Halifax goals and then scored the third himself as they picked up a deserved three points to mark Neil Aspin also being named Manager of the Month in the division.
Former Huddersfield player Jon Worthington opened the scoring after Gainsborough keeper Jan Budtz mishandled Toulson’s cross.
Unfortunately, going behind seemed to spur the visitors into life and they equalised shortly afterwards when former Halifax player Darryn Stamp put on pressure and Liam Hogan turned the ball into his own net.
Lee Gregory put Halifax back in front before half time and then Toulson sealed things with his first goal for the club, firing in low off a post after collecting the ball on the edge of the area.
The win leaves Halifax fourth in the Blue Square North table before Saturday’s home clash with Corby Town.
Brighouse Town scored a 2-0 home win over Liversedge in the Baris Northern Counties East League Premier Division thanks to a Tom Mathews penalty and a late strike from Ernest Boafa.
Brighouse are at home to Heanor Town on Saturday, aiming to win and put more pressure on leading two Bridlington Town and Scarborough Athletic, who are three and four points ahead respectively.
