LEE NOVAK netted against his former club as Town kicked off their friendly programme with a win.

The Geordie striker glanced home a 29th-minute header from a neat cross by trialist midfielder Conor Sellars, the son of ex-Town player Scott.

Micky Cummins hit a post for the home side in a game which featured 22 Town players in total, only keeper Alex Smithies playing the full 90 minutes.

There were appearances by new arrivals Oscar Gobern, Liam Cooper, Donal McDermott and Tommy Miller, but Calum Woods didn't feature because of muscle stiffness after a full week's training.

Manager Lee Clark said winger Gary Roberts was left out for the same reason.
