TOWN suffered a second successive defeat - and had Nathan Eccleston sent off.
The on-loan Liverpool man, playing on the left side of midfield, was shown a straight red card for an ugly challenge on right-back Stuart Lewis in the 26th minute.
By that stage, Town were trailing to a seventh-minute goal by Canadian international striker Simeon Jackson, who pounced after Adam Miller blocked a Robbie Williams clearance.
Town had their best spell just before half-time, but Gills top scorer Jackson fired his 17th goal of the season just 20 seconds after the restart when he latched onto Renee Howe's flick.
Jackson was denied a hat trick when Alex Smithies scrambled back to palm away his 79th-minute shot while Town substitute Gary Roberts hit a post a minute later.
