NATHAN CLARKE’S 16th-minute header earned Town’s third successive win over arch-rivals Leeds and rekindled hopes of making the League I play-offs.
The centre-back was left unmarked to beat Leeds keeper Casper Ankergren from Gary Roberts’ well-placed corner.
Everton loanee Lukas Jutkievic showed up well on his Town debut and twice tested Leeds with first-half shots.
Meanwhile Town’s highly-rated teenage keeper Alex Smithies made a string of good saves, twice denying Leeds’ top man Andy Robinson.
The visitors also hit a post late on through Richard Naylor, but Town held out, much to the delight of their fans in a bumper 20,928 derby crowd.
Town: Smithies, Holdsworth, N Clarke, Butler, Williams, Pilkington, Goodwin, Collins, Ainsworth (Jevons, HT), Roberts (Werling, 74mins), Jutkiewicz (Craney, 81mins). Subs not used: Glennon, T Clarke.
